Malie Donn Van Cleef Trilogy Tops Chart

Malie Donn holds the entire top three on Apple Music in Jamaica with one song in three parts. On the October 31 chart, “Van Cleef Pt 3” sat at No. 1, “Vancleef Pt 2” at No. 2 and the original “Van Cleef” at No. 3, a full podium sweep for the Malie Donn Van Cleef series, as DancehallMag’s chart report documented.

For Toronto’s Caribbean diaspora, this is the sound of the moment travelling exactly the way dancehall travels now: built in Jamaica, measured on streaming charts, and carried into Toronto cars, barbershops and fetes by the same listeners who keep the city’s dancehall nights full.

Malie Donn’s toughest competition on Jamaica’s Apple Music chart is himself.

That line from DancehallMag’s report is the whole story in one sentence. The third part of the series, released October 27 through Attomatic Records, Salkey Recorz, Crook Empire and Dan Sky Records, did not replace the first two. It pulled them back up with it.

The Malie Donn Van Cleef numbers behind the sweep

The series has passed a reported 30 million streams across digital platforms. On Spotify, the original “Van Cleef” has accumulated 5,441,169 streams and Part 2 has generated 3,302,430, a combined 8,743,599 plays before the newest chapter is counted. The daily figures show staying power rather than a spike: the original was pulling about 42,158 streams a day and Part 2 about 38,559, more than 80,000 combined daily plays.

Part 3 joined fast. Released October 27, it drew roughly 300,000 YouTube views inside its first 48 hours, and its official audio passed one million YouTube views within six days. The song’s composer credit names Kimalie Hylton, Malie Donn himself, which matters for a series this personal in its branding: the Van Cleef name, borrowed from luxury jewellery, is his own signature, repeated until it became a franchise.

The Golden Child runs beside the trilogy

The sweep lands on top of a debut album that is still moving. The Golden Child, released September 4 through VP Records, has passed 11.1 million streams according to Luminate figures reported by DancehallMag, with premium subscriptions accounting for about 6.5 million of them, roughly 59 percent. The album has also topped Apple Music’s Reggae Albums chart in Bermuda, St. Lucia and the Turks and Caicos Islands.

VP Records is the New York label founded by Vincent and Patricia Chin, the historic bridge between Kingston and the North American diaspora. A Jamaican debut on VP, topping reggae album charts across the Caribbean while its singles sweep the home chart, is the classic dancehall export pattern running on modern streaming rails.

Why the trilogy format worked

Most artists move on after a hit. Malie Donn stayed, and the sequencing is the strategy: each new part reactivated the catalogue behind it, so the chart ended up measuring one audience listening to three records at once. Dancehall has always understood versions and sequels, from riddim culture onward. The Van Cleef run is that instinct expressed in streaming numbers.

The open question, as DancehallMag’s own report put it, is how far the series travels beyond Jamaica, and whether a Part 4 is already on the way. On the evidence of the last two weeks, Toronto’s dancehall listeners are already part of the answer.
