Skepta Releases Pandora’s Box Single

By No Excuse

Skepta released Pandora’s Box on Friday, October 23, 2026, through Big Smoke Records under exclusive licence to Epic Records. The Skepta Pandora’s Box single is the second preview of his album The Fork and Knife, which arrives on November 6, 2026, and it is a quiet, reflective record from an artist returning to rap albums for the first time since 2019.

The date is the context. Skepta’s last solo studio album was Ignorance Is Bliss in 2019. In the years since, his public focus shifted toward club culture with his Mas Tiempo project, which Clash pointed to directly in its October 23 report on the single, calling the new album a return to rap music after that period. Pandora’s Box is the record where that return turns inward.

Skepta Pandora’s Box: A Reflective Single

HotNewHipHop, which lists the single’s release date as October 23, 2026, in the hip hop genre, describes an introspective track where Skepta takes a more subdued approach, reflecting on life and its pitfalls in both the lyrics and the production. The official press release frames it the same way, saying the song delivers an incisive and reflective take on the realities of addiction. Clash heard the other side of the same performance, calling the track packed with muscular swagger and finding Skepta working from a position of strength. Both readings can hold. The writing is reflective, and the delivery never sounds weakened by it.

The opening lyric quoted by HotNewHipHop sets the tone in four lines, a friend lost to his own supply, a face the writer no longer recognises, and no rescue available. It is plain spoken writing about consequences, delivered without melodrama, and it signals what kind of album is coming. The credits back the stripped approach: Skepta is vocalist, composer, producer and lyricist, with guitar and additional production from David Dyson, mixing by Ben Thomas, engineering from Dominic Ganderton, Jabulani Gideon Sithole and Jonathan Lopez Garcia, and mastering by Ryan Schwabe.

The Fork and Knife, Due November 6

Pandora’s Box follows Innocent Smile, released on September 18, 2026, as the album’s first single, a ska and breakbeat record pairing Chase & Status with Suggs. The contrast between the two singles is the album’s range in miniature: one built for the dancefloor, one built for a quiet room. By April 2026 Skepta was already telling interviewers he had picked 17 tracks for the record, and he explained the title’s meaning to Esquire UK in an interview reported that month. On his standard for what the album had to contain, he was direct:

I’m just making sure I cover all ground and speak for the voiceless.

The title itself comes from his family story. In British GQ’s telling, it traces to his mother recounting her father seeing fine cutlery in a hotel and saying the family had to work hard so that one day they would eat with fork and knife. Skepta has described wanting the album to be a liberating record about immigrant experience transformed into focus and success. The rollout has history too: the album was first announced on New Year’s Day 2024 under the flipped title Knife and Fork, with a single promised within weeks, then rebuilt and resurfaced on a British GQ cover in November 2025 before this autumn’s singles finally locked the date.

Road Tested at Reading, Live in November

Parts of this album have already faced a festival crowd. At Reading Festival in August 2026, reported by NME on August 28, Skepta debuted three new tracks from the album, Pandora’s Box, Aloe Vera and Innocent Smile, while Nigerian artist Slawn spray painted live throughout the set. A reflective song held its place in a headline festival set two months before release, which says something about the confidence behind this rollout.

The album’s arrival comes with a short run of intimate shows rather than an arena lap. Skepta takes over The Cause in London on November 6, the album’s release day, then plays Elysee Montmartre in Paris on December 1, La Madeleine in Brussels on December 2 and the Gashouder in Amsterdam on December 4. Artist presale opens Tuesday, October 27 at 10am local time, with general sale on Wednesday, October 28.

For a Mercury Prize winning artist who co founded Boy Better Know and carried grime from Tottenham to the world, a seven year gap between solo rap albums sets a high bar for the return. Pandora’s Box clears it by doing less, not more: a subdued beat, a hard subject handled plainly, and a writer trusting the pen over the posture. The Fork and Knife lands on November 6, and this single suggests it is worth the wait.
