Olivia Rodrigo released “take me home (4 christmas),” her first Christmas song, on November 6 with a video starring Cynthia Nixon and Ben Marshall. The single opens her holiday season on the road, in the middle of the North American leg of her Unraveled tour behind her third album.

Olivia Rodrigo take me home (4 christmas) starts with a chorus about commitment

Rodrigo wrote the song last summer with Dan Nigro and Amy Allen, and Nigro produced it, according to JamBase’s release report. The writing is direct about what the narrator wants from the relationship:

“I want you to take me home, and not so we can make out. I want you to take me home, take me home to your parents’ house.”

The track runs on bells and a loose groove that NME hears as a nod to “Christmas Wrapping,” the 1981 new wave holiday record by The Waitresses. The references stay in that register throughout, from peeking under the tree to a hungover brunch the morning after.

Cynthia Nixon plays the mother in the video

The official video opens in the aftermath of a festive party, then follows Rodrigo and her boyfriend, played by Saturday Night Live cast member Ben Marshall, to his family home. Cynthia Nixon plays his mother, and the family scenes run through games, dinner and drinks before the closing shot, where Marshall is still asleep and a disappointed Rodrigo takes out the trash. It is a complete story in one video, cast with two actors audiences already know from comedy.

A B-side and physical editions complete the release

The single carries a second new song, “Miss This Christmas,” as its B-side, a detail that makes the release a two song event rather than a lone holiday track. Physical editions are part of the plan from day one: an exclusive seven inch vinyl and a cassette are available through her official store, alongside a wider holiday collection of gifts and collectables. The release follows October’s “expectations” remix with Chappell Roan, which coverage of the single notes became the highest peaking all female collaboration on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2026.

The single lands mid tour, with London next

Rodrigo is currently on the North American leg of the Unraveled tour with Wolf Alice, supporting “you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love,” her third studio album, released in June. Next spring she heads to the UK for a residency at The O2 in London. A first Christmas single, released while a tour is still running, gives the holiday season a new entry from the top of pop rather than another catalogue cover, and the vinyl and cassette editions are built for exactly the gift buying weeks ahead.
