Mozart Kennedy Carves His Own Lane

By Marquee

Mozart Kennedy is building a solo catalogue with its own centre of gravity, and TROPHY is the clearest proof yet. The single arrived on August 21, 2026, an Afrobeats and dancehall record with a Caribbean bounce underneath it, and the official video followed this October.

The Feature That Put His Name In Toronto Ears

Plenty of Toronto readers met Mozart Kennedy as a guest. He is the featured artist on Ring Ring Ring, Omygotti’s single released on June 10, 2025 through Famous Factory Music, and the only feature in Omygotti’s current streaming run. The record is two minutes and eight seconds, clean, and built on a simple premise its makers state plainly: the two cousins flying women out to have fun. Kennedy and Omygotti trade that energy back and forth, and the song plays like a postcard from a trip nobody wanted to end.

It is also, notably, the cleanest record in Omygotti’s recent run, a good time single with no explicit tag that can play anywhere, and that lightness is part of its design: two cousins on a record built for the replay, not the argument.

A feature like that is borrowed light. It puts a voice in front of an audience that came for somebody else, and it leaves the guest with a question to answer: what do you sound like alone? Kennedy’s solo catalogue is the answer he has been writing for years, and TROPHY is where the answer gets loud.

A Catalogue Built Single By Single

The solo run did not start with the feature. Kennedy’s catalogue reaches back to singles like Dora in 2020 and Pull Up, and it gathers into the IV the Kulture collection, where tracks like Hellcat, Outside, Who’s Calling and Pretty Lady sit together. FIGHT, released as a single on November 29, 2024, is the hip hop side of the catalogue at its sharpest, and My Heart works the melodic side of the same pen. He has also been the guest in other rooms, including a feature on All Time High in 2023, years before Ring Ring Ring made the arrangement a family affair.

The collection itself tells a story about patience. IV the Kulture gathers recordings that reach back to 2020, No Negativity and Dora among them, and presents them unmastered and unpolished next to the newer singles, less a finished album than a sketchbook left open on the table. Artists at his stage usually hide the drafts. Kennedy published his, and the run from those early records to FIGHT and TROPHY is audible in a way a polished discography would never show.

Read in order, the catalogue shows an artist testing registers one single at a time: straight hip hop, melody, then the Caribbean-facing sounds his family and his own instincts keep pulling toward. There is no album yet, and the singles do not sound like leftovers from one. They sound like auditions for a direction, each one kept or discarded on its own merits.

Mozart Kennedy TROPHY Widens The Register

TROPHY is the direction, chosen out loud. His own camp tags the record as Afrobeats, dancehall and Caribbean music, and the official video plays it straight: a performance visual built around the song’s bounce rather than a storyline, Kennedy front and centre for the whole run. It is a different register from FIGHT or Hellcat, and it suits him. The rhythm does the travelling, and his voice rides it instead of wrestling it.

The single’s artwork makes the same point before the song even starts. It shows a golden statue on a marble pedestal, and the plaque on the base is engraved with four words: “Property of Mozart Kennedy.” As a mission statement for an artist stepping out of a guest spot, it is hard to beat. The trophy is not the feature, not the cosign, not the family name. The trophy is the catalogue he owns.

We covered the TROPHY video when it landed in our video coverage, and it holds up as the centre of his current run: the record Toronto heard second, after the feature, and the one that explains what he was building toward the whole time.

What comes next is the interesting part. Kennedy has the guest spot behind him, a catalogue with real range in front of him, and a single that tells you exactly whose name is on the pedestal. Follow him at @mozartkennedy on Instagram and TikTok, and expect the next single to tell us whether TROPHY was a detour or a doorway.
