Jamie Miller Tops Chart With Babydoll

By No Excuse

Jamie Miller reached No. 1 on the UK Official Singles Chart with Babydoll on October 23, 2026, completing a nine week climb and edging Tate McRae’s Housewife, which debuted at No. 2. The Jamie Miller Babydoll number one is a chart story built the slow way: no launch week spike, just a record that kept gaining listeners for two months.

Babydoll was released on August 7, 2026 through Republic Records and entered the UK chart in September at No. 84. From there its run reads like a staircase: 84, 67, 46, 24, 8, 6, 3, 2, 1. Chart Watch, which has followed the single all autumn, notes it climbed the Top 75 for seven straight weeks and the Top 100 for eight, the first song to sustain a rise like that without pausing or falling since Tones And I’s Dance Monkey in 2019 and 2020.

Jamie Miller Babydoll Number One: The 556 Unit Finish

The final week was close enough to count by hand. Babydoll consumed 47,548 chart units in its No. 1 week, up 38.27 percent week on week, made up of 5,906 digital downloads and 41,642 sales equivalent streams. Housewife, the first song from Tate McRae’s upcoming fourth album and the highest of ten debuts on that week’s Top 75, opened at No. 2 with 46,992 units. The gap between a nine week climb and the biggest debut of the week was 556 units.

There is a Canadian footnote inside that finish. Housewife had already given McRae, the Calgary pop star, a debut at No. 1 on both Billboard global charts, and her three earlier signature hits, You Broke Me First, Greedy and Sports Car, all peaked at No. 3 in the UK. Babydoll is the record that kept her from a first British No. 1, at least for this week, and it did it by outlasting her launch rather than outspending it. Babydoll’s total UK consumption now stands at 191,742 units, and the song has also reached a new peak of No. 70 on the US Hot 100.

A Welsh First, 41 Years in the Making

Miller, 29 and from Cardiff, is the first Welsh artist to top the UK singles chart since Sian Evans sang on DJ Fresh’s Louder in 2011. He is also the first solo male Welsh artist at No. 1 in 41 years, since Shakin’ Stevens reached the top with Merry Christmas Everyone in 1985. Official Charts puts him in a short national line that runs through Tom Jones, Dave Edmunds, Shirley Bassey, Bonnie Tyler and Duffy.

His reaction, given to Official Charts on the day, was not polished, which is part of why the story has travelled:

I don’t even know what to say other than thank you so much for getting me Number 1, this is the biggest thing that’s ever happened to me in my life, I love you guys.

Miller first came to public attention in 2017, finishing third on The Voice UK. He is only the second performer discovered by that show to reach No. 1, after Becky Hill sang on Oliver Heldens’ Gecko (Overdrive) in 2014. Between the show and this single came years of singles that did not break through, including Here’s Your Perfect, the EPs Broken Memories and The Things I Left Unsaid, and his debut album Long Way Home. Babydoll, co-written by Miller with Australian singer and songwriter Hayley Warner and American songwriter Michael Blum, who also co-produced it, is the record that finally converted that long apprenticeship.

The Duet, the Dance and What Comes Next

Two engines powered the climb. A dance trend took the song across TikTok from late summer, with Miller’s own routine posts spreading through August, and a second version of the song, a duet with Off Campus actor Antonio Cipriano, gave the record a fresh headline and its only official video performance. The duet version drove the final week’s consumption jump, and Miller and Cipriano performed it together live on BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing results show on October 25, two days after the No. 1 was confirmed.

Chart Watch makes one more observation worth keeping: on streaming, the solo version remains the bigger record, while the duet leads on YouTube, where the performance video lives. Two versions, two platforms, one chart total. It is a modern No. 1 assembled from parts, and it beat a global superstar’s debut week to get there. Whether Babydoll holds a second week is the next question on the chart. The harder part, the nine week climb from No. 84, is already done.
