The iimiTV Canadian Chart is a consumption chart. It does not rank songs by what anyone at iimiTV likes, and no position on it is ever for sale. It ranks the Top 20 songs by Canadian hip hop and hip hop-adjacent R&B artists by what Canada is actually playing this week.
What It Counts
Every week the chart pulls two Canada-specific streaming charts, both free and public: the Apple Music Canada Top Songs chart (positions 1 to 200) and the Spotify Canada Daily Top 200.
Points per song: (201 minus the Apple Music Canada rank) plus (201 minus the Spotify Canada rank). A song sitting at number one on both scores 400, the maximum. A song absent from one chart scores zero on that leg. Ties break first by the best single-chart rank, then by the Apple Music Canada rank.
Who Is Eligible
The lead artist must be Canadian. A Canadian who appears only as a featured guest on a non-Canadian artist’s song does not make that song eligible; co-lead billings do count, because the Canadian is a lead. The artist’s primary genre must be hip hop or R&B. That includes Punjabi-Canadian rap and francophone Canadian rap, which are part of Canadian hip hop. Canadian pop acts whose primary genre is pop are covered by iimiTV as news, but they are not this chart’s subject.
The song also has to be charting in Canada right now. Catalogue songs are welcome when Canada is genuinely playing them; they earn their place on merit, not nostalgia.
The Promise
The method is the same every week, the numbers come out of the pull and never out of a hand edit, and a new chart lands every Friday. Sponsorship lives around the chart, never inside the ranking. That is what makes it a chart of record: anybody can check the work.
