Sidney Crosby scored twice to take sole possession of sixth place on the NHL all-time scoring list on Saturday, November 7, 2026, as the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Los Angeles Kings 5-2 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The second-period goal that moved him past Marcel Dionne was career point 1,772, and an awarded empty-net goal late in the third period took the 39-year-old captain from Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia to 1,773.

Sidney Crosby All-Time Scoring: Sixth Place Is His Alone

The numbers now sit in one line. NHL.com’s official game recap records Crosby at 1,773 points, built on 660 goals and 1,113 assists, passing Dionne’s 1,771 points (731 goals, 1,040 assists) for sole possession of sixth place on the league’s all-time points list. He had shared sixth with Dionne since October 31, when he tied the mark in Montreal on the same night he set the NHL record for assists with one franchise.

The point that broke the tie was not a classic Crosby goal, and it needed a scoring change to become his. At 17:13 of the second period, Erik Karlsson set up Evgeni Malkin for a one-timer from the right circle, and the shot caught a piece of Crosby on its way in to make it 4-2. The goal was first credited to Malkin and later switched to Crosby, as theScore’s account of the milestone noted. It came moments after Los Angeles thought it had tied the game, only for an Artemi Panarin goal to be overturned on a Penguins offside challenge.

Doing it in Los Angeles carried its own symmetry. Dionne played 12 seasons for the Kings, and his retired number hangs in the building. “I mean, it was probably a little bit cooler because it was here,” Crosby said of passing Dionne in Los Angeles, in the NHL.com recap. His second goal was awarded at 18:44 of the third period after he was impeded on a breakaway toward the empty net, closing the scoring at 5-2 and giving him his second multigoal game of the season. Penguins coach Dan Muse summed up the dressing room’s reaction: “Unbelievable. Really happy for him, and, again, it seems like it’s every week, it’s a new one, so just incredible.”

The Climb Through The Top Ten

Sixth place is the latest step in a climb that has moved quickly in the last two seasons. Daily Faceoff’s scoring-list report records that Crosby passed Mario Lemieux and Steve Yzerman for eighth and seventh place during the 2025-26 season, and that his career line now reads 660 goals and 1,113 assists for 1,773 points in 1,437 games. A week earlier in Montreal, the same climb produced two milestones in one night: his 1,112th assist set the single-franchise assists record, passing Ray Bourque’s Boston mark, and a goal took him to 1,771 points and the tie with Dionne that Saturday’s game finally broke. iimiTV covered that night in Crosby Sets Single-Franchise Assists Record.

Only five players now stand ahead of him on the list: Wayne Gretzky, Jaromir Jagr, Mark Messier, Gordie Howe and Ron Francis. Francis is the next rung, at 1,798 points, which puts fifth place 25 points away and means Crosby needs 26 more points to pass him outright. The season line shows why that is a live chase rather than a distant one, even in a slow start by his standards: Crosby has six goals and six assists for 12 points in 17 games, and he had scored one goal in his previous seven games before Saturday. “Haven’t gone in easy, so yeah, just nice to get that one,” he said. “Nice to get a win and have a good feeling here going into tomorrow.”

Malkin Climbs The Same List On The Same Night

Crosby was not the only Penguin moving up the all-time list in Los Angeles. NHL.com’s game notes record that Malkin, who had three assists, reached 1,421 career points and passed Adam Oates (1,420) for 20th place on the same list. The same notes carry a team mark that explains how long this core has been producing together: it was the 37th game in which Crosby, Malkin and Kris Letang each recorded multiple points in the same game, and Pittsburgh’s record in those games is 36-1-0.

The win itself was built early. Tommy Novak scored at 1:52 and again at 5:10, the fastest two goals by a player to begin a game this season, before Corey Perry got Los Angeles on the board. Egor Chinakhov’s power-play goal late in the first period made it 3-1, Alex Laferriere’s power-play goal early in the second cut it to 3-2, and Crosby’s milestone goal restored the two-goal lead before the awarded empty-netter finished it. Sergei Murashov made 26 saves for his first win of the season, while Darcy Kuemper stopped 14 shots for the Kings.

For Pittsburgh, the result ended two streaks at once: a four-game losing run (0-3-1) and a seven-game road losing streak that had stood since a 7-0 win in Philadelphia in the season opener on September 30. The Penguins improved to 6-9-2, and the Kings fell to 5-8-2 in the fourth game of a seven-game homestand.

What Comes Next For Crosby And The Penguins

The California trip continues immediately: Pittsburgh plays at the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday, November 8, while Los Angeles stays home to host the Nashville Predators on Tuesday. For Crosby, the next marker on the list is already in view. Twenty-six points would take him past Francis into the top five, a place only Gretzky, Jagr, Messier and Howe have ever finished a career. On Saturday night in the building where Dionne’s number hangs, the Canadian captain took sixth place for himself, and he took it in a win his struggling team needed as badly as he needed the goals to start going in.
