SadBoi Drops New Single Pop Shit

By NoExcu$e

Toronto’s SadBoi has released Pop Shit, a new single via LVRN Records that previews her upcoming project GYAL 6. The record arrived this month as the latest step in a breakout year for the singer and rapper, and it pairs her with one of the heaviest production lineups of her career.

A Heavyweight Production Team

Pop Shit was co produced by Grammy Award winner David “Dos Dias” Bishop, whose credits include work with Usher, The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar and Summer Walker, alongside KTOE, who has worked with Megan Thee Stallion and YoungBoy Never Broke Again, and John Fellner. That is a serious room for any artist, and SadBoi sounds completely at home in it.

The result is a chant driven record built around an infectious hook, with SadBoi riding the beat in the confident, unfiltered style that has become her signature. The chorus is engineered to live in your head and on your feed, the kind of refrain that turns a single into a moment. Watch the video below.

The single follows Twisted and stands as the newest preview of GYAL 6, her next project, which is due later this year. The music is aimed at girls who are a little messy, rebellious and risky, even if only in their imagination, a soundtrack for lover girls who might not always get love right but know how to make every night feel like it could fix everything, if only for a moment.

A JUNO Season To Remember

The single lands in the middle of the biggest year of SadBoi’s career so far. She earned two nominations at the 2026 JUNO Awards, powered by the acclaim around her project DRY CRY, which drew praise well beyond Canada’s borders and announced her to a much wider audience.

“The album feels like a declaration of incoming supremacy from SadBoi.”

That was Pitchfork’s verdict on DRY CRY, with the publication also calling the Toronto artist a rising star. Add a North American run supporting Rico Nasty on the LETHAL tour, and SadBoi has spent 2026 converting underground buzz into mainstream credentials, one stage and one single at a time.

From Ebhoni To SadBoi

The rise has been building for years. Born Ebhoni Jade Cato-O’Garro and raised between Toronto and Oshawa, she was singing, writing and recording by her teens, and she made her commercial debut under the name Ebhoni in 2018. A run of singles and EPs followed, including the 2021 project Good Dick & Weed, as she moved between contemporary R and B and more pop flavoured material.

In 2022, she took the name SadBoi, inspired by her nickname for a former boyfriend, and pivoted toward the club. The move paid off quickly. She signed a deal with LVRN Records that same year and launched the new era with the single U Dun Kno. She reached a far bigger audience with Potential, the independence anthem that anchored her first LVRN project, 2024’s BARE CHAT, which also delivered jane baby, her collaboration with Cash Cobain.

The SadBoi catalogue came together fast. Before the LVRN deal, she self released a run of 2022 singles and the six track EP were all the ig girls worth it?, then kept the pressure on through 2024 with additional singles including fashion week and rosa, her collaboration with DJ SAZE. Each release sharpened the formula a little more, dancefloor tempos underneath direct, quotable writing.

Her sound pulls directly from her Caribbean heritage, mixing garage and house with dancehall, lovers rock, baile funk and reggaeton. It is a blend that has placed her at the crossroads of hip hop, global pop, electronic music and UK rap, and it has drawn collaborations with Smiley, Blanco, Cleotrapa and Duquesa along the way.

GYAL 6 Loading

Pop Shit sets the tone for what comes next. GYAL 6 is expected later this year, and by all accounts it blurs genres with ease, shifting from confident rap records to high energy anthems. At its centre is the intersection of music, culture and community, a space designed to make listeners feel seen, inspired and connected.

If the singles are the guide, the project will lean hard into the dancefloor without losing the confessional edge that made DRY CRY connect. For Toronto, SadBoi’s run is one more reminder of how deep the city’s bench is right now, and how many different sounds are carrying the flag at once. Pop Shit is out now on all streaming platforms.
