Mbappe Scores Twice In El Clasico Win

By No Excuse

Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-1 at Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday, October 25, 2026, in the first El Clasico of the LaLiga season. Kylian Mbappe scored both Madrid goals, in the 41st and 87th minutes, to hand the league leaders their first defeat of the campaign and cut the gap at the top to three points.

Barcelona had won all nine of their opening league matches and arrived at Matchday 10 with a perfect record and a six point cushion over third placed Madrid. Raphinha brought the hosts level in the 61st minute and Camp Nou pushed for a winner, but Mbappe struck again three minutes from the end of normal time to settle a match that changed the shape of the title race in a single night.

How The Goals Came

Madrid struck first late in a tight first half. Mbappe put the visitors ahead in the 41st minute, sending Madrid into the break with a 1-0 lead that their organised defensive work had protected against a Barcelona side used to controlling games at home this season.

Barcelona responded after the restart with the kind of pressure that had carried them through nine straight league wins. Pedri created the opening and Raphinha finished it in the 61st minute to make it 1-1, a goal that swung the momentum toward the home side and set up a final half hour in which both teams pushed for the goal that would take the points.

The decisive moment arrived in the 87th minute. Eduardo Camavinga provided the pass and Mbappe finished from close range to restore the Madrid lead at 2-1. Barcelona could not find a second equaliser before the final whistle, and Madrid left Camp Nou with their first league win at the ground since October 2023, according to reports of the match.

A Milestone Mbappe Called A Detail

The winning goal carried a personal landmark with it. Mbappe second goal of the night was his 100th goal for Real Madrid across all competitions since joining the club in 2024, a milestone reached on the biggest domestic stage Spanish football offers, away to the club fiercest rivals.

Mbappe refused to put the landmark ahead of the result when he spoke after the match.

I’m very happy. I think everyone knows I like to score goals and help the team that way, but I think today it’s just a detail because the most important thing is the team’s win. Honestly, the real star of the game today is the team, the group, because we knew we had to play a big game, a team game.

That framing matters because of how the match was won. Madrid did not control every phase at Camp Nou. They led, they were pulled back, and they had to survive long spells of Barcelona pressure before the late winner. A forward deciding the game twice will take the headlines, but the result also rested on a team holding its shape at 1-1 in a stadium expecting the home side to complete the turnaround.

What The Result Does To The Race

Barcelona stay top of LaLiga on 27 points after ten matches, with Madrid now on 24 points in third place, three points behind the leaders. The defeat ends Barcelona pursuit of a tenth straight win to open the league season, and it ends a perfect start that had begun to look like a statement of control over the division.

For Madrid, the value of the night goes beyond the three points. Reports of the match noted that Jose Mourinho side have now won five consecutive matches, and a win away in El Clasico is the strongest evidence yet that the run is built on more than a kind run of fixtures. Beating the leaders in their own stadium, after being pegged back, is the kind of result that changes how both dressing rooms view the winter months ahead.

For Barcelona, the task is a response. A first league defeat in October is not a crisis for a team still leading the table, but the manner of it will sting. They recovered to level the match, had the crowd and the momentum, and still left with nothing after conceding three minutes from time.

What Comes Next

Mbappe was clear after the match that Madrid cannot treat one big night as a turning point on its own. He pointed to the need for the same intensity in the next fixture, away at Racing Santander, and stressed that a five game winning run counts for little at a club that expects to win every game it plays.

That is the right note to end the night on. El Clasico wins reshape a title race only when the team that wins one keeps collecting points afterward. Madrid have closed the gap to three points and handed Barcelona their first league loss of the season. The next few weeks will show whether Sunday, October 25 becomes the night the race truly opened up, or simply a famous away win that the leaders absorb and move past.
