FINAL: Philadelphia 76ers 112, Detroit Pistons 106

LeBron James became the first player in NBA history to make 16,000 regular-season field goals on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, reaching the mark early in the second quarter of the Philadelphia 76ers’ 112-106 win over the Detroit Pistons at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. James arrived two baskets short of a number no player had ever touched, and his second make of the night, a left-handed layup on a drive past John Collins, put it in the record book with Philadelphia up 33-23.

James finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in 33 minutes, shooting 5-for-10 from the field in his 1,629th regular-season game. The milestone was a supporting line in a heavyweight game: Jaylen Brown scored a team-high 30 points for Philadelphia, Joel Embiid added 26 points and 15 rebounds, and the 76ers survived a 31-21 fourth quarter from Detroit to move to 8-1, the only one-loss team in the Eastern Conference.

The Two Baskets That Made 16,000

James entered the night with 15,998 career field goals on Basketball-Reference’s milestone tracker, two behind the threshold. His first make was a 15-foot pull-up jumper with 8:15 left in the first quarter. The second came at the start of the second: as the Sixers held a 31-23 lead, James sized up Pistons forward John Collins on the wing, blew past him and finished with his left hand, and Sportsnet’s video of the play shows the drive that carried him to 16,000. The NBA confirmed the milestone during the game, as Heavy reported, and the arena broadcast graphic marked it on the spot: first player in NBA history with 16,000 career field goals.

LeBron James 16,000 Field Goals: The All-Time List

The gap behind James is the story of the record. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar sits second with 15,837 field goals, and Karl Malone is third with 13,528. James and Abdul-Jabbar are the only two players in league history above 14,000, which means the 16,000th basket moved James 163 clear of the man who held this record for decades, and 2,472 clear of the next player on the list.

James took the record itself in March 2026, passing Abdul-Jabbar with a turnaround jumper in Denver while still a Los Angeles Laker. The first player to reach 16,000 did it eight months later in a Philadelphia jersey, in his first season with the 76ers after joining the club in July. He reached the mark in his 1,629th regular-season game, 69 more games than Abdul-Jabbar played in his entire career, a gap that states the real shape of this record: Kareem was faster, at roughly 10.15 makes a night, and James lasted longer than anyone, at 9.82 a night across a record 24 seasons. James, who turns 42 in December, is the only player ever to play a 24th NBA season.

A Second Record In The Same Game

The field goals were not the only history James made in Detroit. The ESPN broadcast noted, in reporting relayed by ClutchPoints, that James has now recorded assists to more than 205 different NBA players, the most of any player in the play-by-play era. His passing ran the Philadelphia offense for long stretches in this one: he found Adem Bona for an and-one finish and, seconds later, hit Bona again for a dunk in the backup centre’s best stint of the season, part of an eight-assist night on a team that assisted 23 of its 39 made baskets.

Brown And Embiid Carry The Win

Philadelphia led 56-42 at halftime and by as many as 18 before Detroit, playing without injured centre Jalen Duren, pushed back behind Duncan Robinson’s 27 points and Cade Cunningham’s 26 points and 11 assists. Brown answered on both ends, closing with 30 points and the late block on Cunningham that halted Detroit’s final push. Sixers head coach Nick Nurse had described Brown’s value after his 26-point, 11-rebound game against Chicago on Monday: “He’s great, man. The dude is tough and he wins, and I’ll take that all day long.” Tyrese Maxey added 19 points on his 26th birthday, and Philadelphia opened a road trip at 4-0 away from home, the first time the franchise has started a season with four straight road wins since 2001, avenging the loss Detroit handed them at home on October 25.

The road trip continues in Cleveland on Friday. The record book, meanwhile, has a new top line that may stand for a very long time: the closest active player to James on the field goals list is thousands of baskets behind, and only Abdul-Jabbar has ever made even 15,000. Wednesday night in Detroit, the number moved again, and it moved in a win.
