A$AP Rocky has finally released the official video for “Shroom Clouds,” the reggie and Jeremih assisted single fans have been asking about for years. The trippy new visual arrived on October 19, just three days after the song dropped as the first taste of the deluxe extension of his album Don’t Be Dumb.
The Video Is A Trip Through Rocky’s Imagination
Rocky directed the video himself alongside Aisulton Seitov and Pietro Biz Biasia, with North of Now and Partizan handling production. The clip opens with the rapper discovering the wonders of nature in a hippie wonderland, where even the old ladies knitting on park benches will take a toke. Then, with the song’s breezy comedown, the visuals transition back to New York City, where Rocky has been hanging on a stoop the whole time.
As its title suggests, “Shroom Clouds” ventures into heady and psychedelic spaces, with woozy instrumentals and pitch-shifted vocals. The visual unfolds in a surreal, dreamlike world that mirrors the sensation of floating above reality, blurring the lines between fantasy and the world around them. The final reveal lands the whole concept: despite the otherworldly journey, Rocky never left New York.
The track itself gives everyone a role. Reggie helps sing the chorus and the bridge, while Jeremih provides the track’s outro. It is a smart construction for a song about floating: a melodic anchor from reggie, Rocky’s verses riding the clouds, and Jeremih easing everything back down to earth.
Four Years In The Making
Longtime fans already know this song by heart. Rocky first performed “Shroom Clouds,” then called “Mushroom Clouds,” back in 2021, fittingly at a 4/20 event for Weedmaps. He shared a snippet at his Governors Ball set that year and performed it again during an Amazon Music Live event in December 2022. For four years, it lived on as a fan favorite that never officially existed.
The finished version was produced by Sleeping Bear and Hector Delgado, and it keeps the woozy DNA that made the early versions so sticky. The chorus still glides the way the live versions promised: “Big ol’ dreams, that’s really what I sleep in / ‘Cause it’s better there when I’m thick-skinned.” It is the kind of melody that has survived four years of anticipation and still sounds fresh.
Rocky told Rolling Stone he had been sitting on the finished record for a while and that the video took just as long to get right:
“It’s a song that we heard before, but I never officially put it out. It’s called ‘Shroom Clouds.’ It’s a fan favorite. I’ve been working on the video for years, and it’s like, perfected. You know me, man. Visually, I do not half-step.”
That attention to detail shows in the final product. Every scene gives viewers a chance to experience the wild imagination the artist sees and feels, and the reveal of the New York stoop gives the psychedelia a street-level grounding that only Rocky would think to include.
Don’t Be Dumb Gets A Second Disc
Released earlier this year, Don’t Be Dumb marked Rocky’s first full-length album in eight years, and it arrived loaded. The project features “PUNK ROCKY,” “STAY HERE 4 LIFE” featuring Brent Faiyaz, “STOLE YA FLOW,” and “HELICOPTER.” The cover art was created by filmmaker and illustrator Tim Burton in collaboration with Rocky, a pairing as strange and inspired as the music deserves.
“Shroom Clouds” serves as the lead single for the album’s deluxe extension, dubbed Disc 2. Rocky told Rolling Stone the track works as a bridge between his latest LP and what is next. He has not announced a release date for Disc 2, but the songs connected to the project reportedly include “Babushka Boi,” “Trunks,” “Sundress,” “Grim Freestyle,” and “Hijack.” Some tracks will reportedly include revised verses, suggesting Disc 2 may present familiar material in a new light.
At just over three minutes, “Shroom Clouds” is a tight statement of intent for the extension: psychedelic without losing the plot, melodic without going soft. It suggests Disc 2 will lean into the more experimental corners of the Don’t Be Dumb sessions rather than just adding bonus cuts.
The Tour Keeps Rolling
The video’s release comes just days after Rocky concluded a sold-out 25-date European and UK tour that spanned 19 countries. The run featured songs from Don’t Be Dumb alongside fan favorites from his catalog, and it included eight arena shows across Central and Eastern Europe, a first for a rap artist in the region according to the tour announcement.
During the Paris stop, Rocky also unveiled his SS27 fashion show, Anti War Global Economics. The event drew more than 6,000 attendees, setting a record for the most-attended fashion show, before Rocky performed at his sold-out concert that same day. It was a reminder that Rocky operates on multiple stages at once: the arena, the runway, and now the director’s chair.
There is no slowing down from here. Rocky has announced Australia and New Zealand dates, marking his first return to the region in eight years. The Don’t Be Dumb World Tour visits Melbourne on December 5, Sydney on December 9, Auckland on December 12, Brisbane on December 14, and Perth on December 17.
Rocky told Rolling Stone he simply needed a breather between tour legs to finally share the song. “I just needed to get a break in between tours to drop this too, so that they could get ready for the next chapter,” he said. Four years of teasing are over, the video is out, and the next chapter is already on the calendar.
